Discover Dahab Holidays
In view of continued unrest and the evolving political situation in Egypt, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advise against all travel to the Governorate of North Sinai and all but essential travel to the rest of Egypt except for resorts on the Red Sea in South Sinai and those resorts on the Egyptian mainland in Red Sea governorate (including Hurghada). Please check the DFA website for more information.
Stretches of golden beaches and the shimmering Red Sea are likely to be the iconic images on Dahab holidays. From lazing alongside its spectacular shorelines to exploring the wondrous sites Dahab holds in-land, you’ll find plenty to keep you captivated on a getaway to this part of Egypt. Whether immersing yourself in its fascinating culture and uncovering its historical sites or indulging in delicious cuisine, there’s nowhere better to provide you with new experiences. What’s more, it’s just a short journey from the popular resort of Sharm el Sheikh, where you’ll find a wealth of water sports alongside plenty of adrenaline-inducing activity.
Located on the stunning Red Sea, Egypt’s main diving town of Dahab is one of the best places in the world to go explore the underwater world. Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Jordan and Israel, Dahab is where travellers go to get away from it all and find comfort in the less-touristy nature than its southern neighbour of Sharm el-Sheikh. Since it is the premier place to go in the Sinai Peninsula, you can find many things to do in Dahab to fill your days.
Wine and Dine
As Dahab thrives on revenue from its visitors, you can be sure to find a myriad of delectable dishes to suit all taste buds. From North African and Indian cuisine to a mishmash of international fare, picky eaters find comfort in Dahab. For those self-caterers, there is a great supermarket around Assalah, and some delicious Italian and fast food for your days off. Don’t forget to try local Egyptian food, like koshari, a lovely carby dish that all love, or any grilled vegetable or meat dish.
Action and Adventure
You can probably guess that diving is one of the main Dahab attractions, and if you visit you should probably have an interest in doing so. Try your hand at underwater exploration in a variety of areas from the Canyon to aptly named Eel Garden, and make sure to bring an underwater camera for those amazing shots you’ll want proof of. There are also plenty of water sports to enjoy along the shores. For adventures on land, there’s always horse riding up mountains and in the desert to Wadi el-Rayan or Wadi Connexion.
Dahab is best explored as part of an excursion around Egypt and Jordan, as there aren’t too many attractions for the little ones. If the older kids love diving and snorkelling, then they’ll be in heaven out here! Take a desert excursion northwest of Dahab and sleep overnight in a Bedouin tent under the stars for an adventure the kids will never forget. For more exciting things to do in Dahab with the kids, head down south in Sharm el-Sheikh for a day of water sports that will tire them out for the bus ride back to Dahab.
Dahab is located on the eastern side of the Sinai Peninsula, away from the hustle and bustle of Cairo and Alexandria, but you can still explore the culture of Egypt. Visit the local Bedouin communities and take camel rides in the Lawrence of Arabia desert for a unique Egyptian experience of Dahab attractions. Climb to St. Katherine or go on another tour of Mt. Sinai for incredible views, especially in the late afternoon. Take the bus journey to Giza and see the impressive pyramids and tombs of Saqqara, and then take a Nile Cruise down to Kom Ombo and Luxor for another view of Egypt. Head to lively Sharm el-Sheikh if you crave nightlife, as Dahab is a more of a hippy diving town perfect for diving and relaxing. There’s always the option to take a few days’ trek to Petra in Jordan, and exploring southern Israel. One of best things to do in Dahab is to use it as a basecamp for exploring the rest of the country and nearby attractions.
Dive into the Red Sea
It’s no surprise that the Red Sea is the main attraction on holidays to Dahab and with scuba-diving proving a popular activity; it’s not hard to see why. Keen beginners needn’t worry about hopping into a wetsuit with plenty of diving schools to help you get up to scratch before diving in. If you’re a seasoned diver however, it’s the perfect opportunity to discover the Blue Hole, one of the top ten diving spots in the world.
Explore the Sands
lIf you don’t fancy getting your feet wet, head nearby to the Sinai Desert, where you’ll be able to swap your scuba-diving gear for a camel or quad bike as you guide your way through glorious sand dunes and majestic mountains. Nearby is the lively resort of Hurghada, a favourite with families and couples alike. Whether you want to spend your time taking part in family-friendly activities on the beach or exploring the best that Egypt has to offer, Dahab holidays will provide you with plenty of memories.
