Great Hotels in Deira
Deira is the old commercial and traditional area of Dubai and one of the showpieces of the United Arab Emirates. You will encounter a mix of modern 5-star hotels, souks, tower blocks, shopping malls, smaller shops and traditional markets, which makes wandering the streets either by day or night a colourful experience. It is in Deira that you will land when you arrive in Dubai at the international airport, with Bur Dubai - a modernised area - and Jumeirah Beach, easily accessible from the terminals. In and around the area re golf courses, fine sandy beaches and tower blocks. In a word it is vast and visitors will be kept busy every minute of the day.
Live Like a Millionaire
You can really splurge when it comes to Deira hotels by choosing a serviced suite in a luxurious 5-star hotel with a private chef or a room with a view of the city. However, the normal standard rooms are excellent, offering every technical gadget under the sun and the standard of service is sublime. You can expect excellent amenities such as spas, swimming pools and restaurants. Mid-range hotels in Deira are also available and you can even get budget class hotels a few streets back from the main hub of the city.
Not Enough Time
A visit to the Gold Souk is a must for visitors, where you will be dazzled by the sheer amount of gold on display, and if you want to buy, don’t be afraid to haggle, but be warned, it is not cheap. Meanwhile, away from the gold you can take in the spice and fish market to get a flavour of the traditional trading that Deira is famous for. If you want real shops though, go to the Deira City Centre Mall where there are hundreds of shops selling everything you can imagine, top restaurants for a quick bite and a children’s entertainment area. You can go to the beach to take in some rays and enjoy some water sports or you can visit Dubai Marina and walk along Marina Walk for another flavour of Dubai’s high-life.
There are fabulous championship golf courses where you can hone your skills, while you can also go horse-racing, camel-racing, go-karting, motor racing, drive into the desert, take a cruise on the harbour or if fine dining is your thing, there is a massive selection of cuisines to choose from. For a spontaneous treat it might be worth booking a table in the revolving restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Hotel for a stupendous view of the city while you eat, and if that is not enough, and you have some energy left, there are nightclubs and dancing in a number of hotels. You can visit Deira at any time of year but the optimum time is from October to March when the climate lends itself to the outdoors. During the summer months it can be very hot but a visit to Deira will always be a memorable one.
