There are plenty of fun things to see and do in Munich, in fact, it’s safe to say that you’ll stay entertained and kept busy during your city break. Munich is simply majestic when it comes to its architecture, with old buildings boasting amazing exteriors and intriguing interiors. The Nymphenburg Palace is a wonderful example of this. Surrounded by beautiful grounds, the palace covers a huge area and features a range of baroque furnishings and decoration. Munich’s main square, Marienplatz also has a selection of stunning buildings from their town halls to the glorious St. Peter’s Church, which is the oldest church in the city.

On the other hand, Munich is home to a host of beer halls and renowned beer houses like Hofbrauhaus, which is the most famous of them all. Also, the Englischer Garten is a great place to enjoy a beer. This large park includes a beer garden located next to a stunning lake, perfect for admiring the view with a beer in hand on a pleasant day. If you’d rather spend the day visiting a museum, check out the BMW Museum. It’s not only a great day out for car enthusiasts, but it is fascinating to see how technology has improved automobiles from their design to their engines.

Munich city breaks are a fantastic choice whatever time of year it is. The warmest it gets is around 23° during July and August. Consequently, the summer as well as the spring months are the best time to visit for sightseeing. During these periods, the weather is calm and mild with a slight raise in temperatures during the summer. On the other hand, if you’re planning your Munich holiday around Oktoberfest, you’ll have to travel to the city for later September and early October.

There are some lovely places to eat and enjoy a nice traditional meal in Munich. You can find a lot of these in the Old Town. Here, there are a choice of small cafes or classy, high rated restaurants. Places like Café Luitpold and Weisses Brauhaus serve up traditional German foods which can be washed down with a selection of German beer. International dishes will also be available in many of Munich’s restaurants, so even the pickiest of eaters will find something to enjoy. Even the famed beer hall of Hofbrauhaus has an abundance of tasty dishes for you to try along with your pint.

Munich weekend breaks aren’t complete without a taste of what the city’s nightlife has to offer. You can dance the night away in live music venues or nightclubs, whatever tickles your fancy. Popular nightlife spots include Ostbahnhof, which includes everything from restaurants, pubs and clubs. Schwabing is the main attraction for a number of youngsters as it is located at the university campus. Perhaps, Oktoberfest is what you’re most looking forward to in Munich? If that’s the case, head out to the city for the festival which takes place annually at the end of September and early October.  

Munich city breaks are of course full of culture, thanks to the traces of history that are left behind in the city and the abundance of museums which are available to visitors. The city is also home to various art galleries which highlight the cultural role that Munich plays within Europe. Spend some time at the Deutsches Museum which is one of the oldest and largest museums in the world. In addition, enjoy an evening at the Bavarian State Opera, where you can watch a thrilling performance. Of course, many cultural events and celebrations are held throughout the year in Munich. Hofbrauhaus is the famed beer hall in Munich which has been standing since the 16^th century. It serves a host of German dishes and beer.

The largest beer festival in the world belongs to Munich thanks to its Oktoberfest. The celebration is held every year from the end of September and continues into early October. Oktoberfest is such a huge hit, that it rakes in over six million tourists every year. Beer lovers enjoy themselves at the festival annually and the tradition continues to go strong. Celebrated since 1810, the beer is still flowing!
