Wine and Dine

Playa De Las Americas menus cater for a mixed crowd. At first glance it’s easy to think you’ll be eating fry ups and chips for a fortnight. But the influx of ex-pats setting up cafes and restaurants definitely isn’t a bad thing. Who hasn’t craved a decent cuppa and a bacon butty when you’re far from home? Beyond the fast food joints there’s a wealth of restaurants serving up everything from classic pub grub to Thai food, sushi and authentic Canarian recipes. For a dining experience that’s far from a greasy full english, head to the Empire Restaurant. Classic gastro pub meals are given a 21st century twist. If you’re keen to really sample some local flavours, the tapas restaurants in Torviscas are just the thing. Back in the resort, you can immerse yourself in American culture at the iconic Hard Rock Cafe. Or feast on food from around the world in gourmet Thai restaurants, tuck in to a Chinese or find a fusion restaurant where ingredients combine to create a festival of flavours to match the party atmosphere. One thing’s for sure, on a holiday to Playa De Las Americas there’s something comforting about seeing some well-known classics on the menu.

Despite the party town reputation, Playa De Las Americas is family friendly too. Much has been done to curb the excess of ardent revellers heading to the party capital, meaning the late night raving has been turned down a notch or two. Most of the island’s bars and restaurants cater for children and there are family themed entertainment evenings on offer as well. During the day, the resort is awash with activities and fun all geared toward holidaying families. The six fabulous beaches have paddle-friendly waters and activities galore. Culture

The first building to be constructed in Playa De Las Americas was a hotel in the 1960s. As such the cultural heritage of the resort is constantly evolving, but at its heart is tourism and delivering a fun-filled holiday. For fifty years Playa De Las Americas has never pretended to be anything other than a party town. Even the famously golden sands were imported from the Sahara to add the finishing touches to this purpose built resort. To see a different side to the island, take a trip to the towns of Masca or La Laguna. Masca is a remote village set high in the Teno Mountains. Cut off from the rest of Tenerife until just 40 years ago, it’s now attracting visitors looking to capture snaps of the traditional houses perched precariously on the dramatic rocks. The urban myth that this village was once a hideaway for pirates adds to the attraction. La Lunga is a Unesco World Heritage site, a university city and a Tenerife location full of 16th, 17th and 18th century architecture.
