Things to do in Side
Side holidays are great for those who want to enjoy fabulous beaches, endless choices of restaurants and plenty of ancient history. Immerse yourself in local culture and enjoy getting to know the way of the town, seek out the historic hotspots or just kick back on the beach for a day of sun, sea and sand.
With a beautiful landscape on its doorstep that’s brimming with hidden historic gems, you’ll want to get out there and explore. While the town centre is renowned for its amphitheatre and Roman bath ruins, you’ll also find a whole host of sites to see just outside Side. Head further afield to Perge where you’ll be able to meander through a labyrinth of crumbling streets, take a seat in the stadium and marvel at the temple ruins.
Shopping is also on the cards when it comes to Side, when the sun sets you can take a stroll through the evening market where the wooden stalls offer up handmade jewellery and hand-woven rugs alongside plenty of other traditional Turkish ware. Remember to practice your haggling skills though as bartering for a bargain is a must!
Side - where old meets new
Once a popular Roman port, Side is steeped in a fascinating history and has a lot of ancient ruin sites to show for it. There’s a magnificent amphitheatre, bathhouses and a labyrinth of old streets that are thought to be where Cleopatra and Marc Anthony once walked. You can almost hear the roar of the crowd as they watched the gladiators go up against wild animals in the arena and you can definitely imagine Cleopatra lapping up the sunshine on the luxurious beaches. Further afield you’ll also find the Corinthian Columns that are also well worth a visit.
Alanya can also be found just along the coast and is another great place to see crumbling ruins and admire ancient architecture while Kemer offers a great change of scene if you want to indulge in some chic shopping and sip a cocktail at the classy marina.
Side holidays - fantastically diverse
Nestled on a peninsula, Side is home to some fantastic beaches. Feel the sand between your toes on the west beach or be in touching distance of the Temple of Apollo on the eastern coast. You’ll be pleased to hear that they’re both relatively quiet too, so you’ll have no trouble finding a spot to kick back and relax on for the day. There’s also a great range of water sports available on both beaches as well as an array of waterfront restaurants that are convenient when you’re feeling peckish.
When the sun goes down you’ll want to head to the harbour where you’ll find a plethora of restaurants, bars and clubs to while away the evening. Brimming with friendly eateries serving up mezze dishes and bars making fantastically fruity cocktails, you’re sure to find somewhere to enjoy the night at your own pace.
