Your guide to Sunny Beach holidays
Sunny Beach is Bulgaria’s top beach destination, welcoming many visitors each year. Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline-fuelled holiday or something more sedate, there’s several top attractions to greet you. Look past the endless number of nightclubs and bars and you’ll even uncover Bulgaria’s history and stunning scenery. Thanks to its dramatic mountains and the lure of the Black Sea, Sunny Beach lends itself well to taking a walk around and exploring the area, or you can choose to hop on a boat to discover further afield.
Start with the south-east coast, just a short trip away from Sunny Beach itself. There’s the Ropotamo Nature Reserve to visit, filled with a wealth of flora and fauna, there’s plenty to see as you take a trip along the scenic Ropotamo River. The small town of Sozopol is just nearby, with its charming winding streets and quirky shopping opportunities.
It goes without saying that Sunny Beach’s crowning glory is its glorious sand-swept stretch along the coast. Awarded Blue Flag status, it continues on for 8km, with a pleasant promenade that runs alongside it. Take a leisurely stroll for a few minutes, and you’ll find plenty of places to land your beach towel as well as a number of beach bars to kick back with a refreshing cocktail.
If you’d rather up the ante, there is a variety of water sports to take part in on holidays to Sunny Beach. Several windsurfing competitions take place every year, when the water is warm and the sun is out. If you’re not a seasoned windsurfer, there’s plenty of opportunity to learn too, with numerous schools situated down on the beachfront. Alternatively, experienced windsurfers should head to the more isolated areas of Arapia, Kiten or Cerovo, where you’ll encounter some prime spots for surfing.
